A Problematic Passenger That Could Be Living Inside You!

Helicobacter Pylori is s bacteria that can be passed from person to person, even parent to child, through shared food and drinks, and kissing. It lives, primarily, in the mouth and stomach.

“H. pylori is the first formally recognized bacterial carcinogen and is one of the most successful human pathogens, as over half of the world’s population is colonized with this gram-negative bacterium.

Unless treated, colonization usually persists lifelong. H. pylori infection represents a key factor in the etiology of various gastrointestinal diseases, ranging from chronic active gastritis without clinical symptoms to peptic ulceration, gastric adenocarcinoma (cancer), and gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma (cancer).”

In most cases, the infection occurs during childhood and persists throughout life.

These are just a few of the ailments this bacteria can be involved with. It is frequently misdiagnosed as one of it’s symptoms, acid reflux (or GERD). It can be present for years without the hosts knowledge, but can suddenly cause various symptoms, especially when a person becomes chronically stressed.

This bacteria has been shown to be able to travel to, and persist in, other areas, outside of the stomach. There are cases in which it has been found in the gallbladder, mouth, and even sinus cavity.

It is often involved in periodontal disease, and it’s life within the stomach can contribute to thyroid dysfunction and heart issues. Because it can inhibit absorption of important nutrients, it can cause problems with metabolic function and hinder weight loss efforts.

Angry… Black… huh?

What’s up with the “angry Black woman”? She’s probably depressed and she doesn’t know it. She probably feels defeated or frustrated or lost, but she pushes forward… with a perpetual negative outlook on life, a tendency to not trust anyone, a fuse that is short, and a countenance that says “try me if you want to”, even to people who likely had no intention of doing such.

We often hear about this woman, and the story is usually followed by something like “ain’t nobody got time for that”, but maybe that’s a great part of the problem. Aside from that, how often do we see women, including these “angry Black women” who stick by men who are ALSO depressed, and constantly self-medicating with alcohol, drugs, and/or women?

Not only are they sticking by these men, but trying their best to pull them up, give them support, and even financially provide for them…. anything she can do to help him to recognize or fulfill his potential… even if, for her, it’s nothing but detrimental.

It doesn’t matter that he may be just as emotional, or more so, since anger is a completely acceptable emotion from men. He may have just as short a fuse, and he might erupt… all over her… physically. He may be listless and lack motivation to do much of anything. He still won’t be bad-mouthed to degree she is.

Despite the MANY examples of issues among men, it is SHE who has a bad rep and who has become the butt of far too many jokes. Yet the man who’s need for help is more evident, or at least more readily recognized, can consistently resist and refuse the various tools available to help rectify his issues, and people will not only be accepting of it, but also assist him in engaging in the unhealthy behaviors.

I remember, when I was a pre-teen and early teen, people would always say to me “smile” or “who pissed you off?”. I didn’t know what they were talking about. Nothing was wrong with me, as far as I knew. I was looking normal… just happened that my normal face looked mad or sad. I didn’t know, till later, that I was depressed.

Not every person who is depressed will be angry, or drink or do drugs. The methods of self-medicating may vary, and the behavior and attitude may also. No matter what, the person doesn’t likely realize what’s going on, doesn’t have much control over how they respond to it, and the necessity for understanding and help is the same.

Me Too … And For Our Brothers Who’ve Suffered….

I am a survivor. Like many women, I made I suffered through sexual abuse, but I am one of far fewer who has managed to reach a place of peace after the turmoil.

I hope to see more and more acknowledgement and openness on the subject. I really feel that awareness and being educated about the issue is one of the very necessary things that can help to reduce such horrendous assault.

The issues are so deep, and have been for so long, yet the surface of the problem is largely still untouched. We need more depth, more listening in spite of discomfort, more insight for prevention, and also hope to see the conversation open up more to increasingly acknowledge the males who have suffered.

As a mother of two boys, and a survivor, I know that the sickness that exists in the mind of a monster who would violate a child isn’t something the average person can comprehend. There is no reason to it, there is little logic that one can apply to it. There is no rule that men only molest/rape girls, or that women don’t molest/rape boys or girls.

Boys have suffered, and do suffer, either in silence, or under a guise of macho-ness and faux manhood, or otherwise. They suffer in various ways, and they outwardly exhibit that suffering in similar ways to the sistas who are called frigid or those called this and hoes. The difference is that many of the various displays of pain go unrecognized because they are mistaken for other things, including male-ness.

Our brothers suffer, even unknowingly, as many of our sisters do. Sadly the magnitude and extent to which they suffer is often difficult to assess because they typically feel that they can’t tell anyone, or that there’s nothing negative to tell (especially when the offender was a woman).

There needs to be such an outcry, such an outpouring of information and support for one another, and an end to ducking the subject. Let’s put aside our discomfort with the conversation, and let’s fully address it.

If It’s White, The Sugar Ain’t Right!

While white sugar isn’t as bad as high fructose corn syrup (also called corn sugar), it’s far from being good for you, and now there is more reason to avoid it.

Stay clear of the white stuff as much as possible. Not only is it highly unhealthy, but much of the white sugar today comes from sugar beets, rather than sugar cane, which are mostly genetically modified (GMO).

Turbinado sugar (often called “raw sugar”, or “sugar in the raw”) or organic whitr sugar (mostly off-white in color) is better, although not perfect. Please note that turbinado is NOT actually raw sugar. The term was applied by manufacturers as a marketing ploy.

Sucanat sugar is the BEST. It has different names, depending on where it originated, including Rapadura, and Muscovado. As far as sweeteners go, Grade B Maple syrup, Coconut sugar, and Date sugar are even better.

I know that many like to use Agave Nectar, however, it is NOT the healthy sweetener that it’s promoted to be. It is actually very unhealthy, and is nearly as bad as High Fructose Corn Syrup. It has been pushed as a good alternative for diabetics, but it is NOT good AT ALL for diabetics (or anyone else).

Stop The Meat Hate!

This is one post, of what may be many more to come, about misinformation that is spread about eating meat.

So many celebrities are jumping on the meatless or vegan bandwagon. This article was inspired by a video made by Russell Simmons about veganism.

I’m all for people transitioning into a healthier lifestyle, but I am completely against wrong information being disseminated as fact. He stated that the average person has access to correct information, and he was right about that, but most people are following what’s sensational, or what sounds good, rather than what is correct.

There’s so much misinfo floating around about meat, that it would take me far too long to address it all at once, so this is about Simmons’ statements regarding carcinogens in meat.


Therefore, becoming vegetarian or vegan doesn’t mean you don’t eat carcinogens. If you cook foods at high heats, using oils, you eat carcinogens that can be equal to that found in meat cooked at high heat.

Many meat substitutes are cooked at high heats (especially those that are fried to mimic fried chicken or fried fish, but not limited to fried vegan foods). This is why many oils/fats have to be overly processed, thus having the majority of their nutrients removed, in order to make them suitable for cooking at high temps. So now, you’re eating unhealthy, highly processed, food to avoid eating other unhealthy food. Make sense?

Contrary to the claim made, eating meat does not automatically equate to having carcinogens equal to 20 cigarettes. This has to do with cooking method, because meat has fats/oils in it. Using HIGH HEAT to cook meat isn’t best. So get your slow cookers and pressure cookers out, and do more baking and boiling of meats (yes you can boil chicken and have it come out absolutely delicious and tender). Also, many can source naturally, organically raised meats and milk in their area from local farmers.

A thinking person asked Russell “what about meat from small organic farms that humanely raise animals and allow them to feed naturally”. He replied “they’re not AS BAD, but where you find less animal products, you find less cancer”.

His flawed statement suggests that CORRELATION EQUALS CAUSATION. It does NOT! Why might we find less cancer in those who don’t eat meat? Because those who don’t eat meat have made several other lifestyle changes along with the elimination of meat.

Those other changes include simply having vegetables and fruits be the majority of their diet, which has far more to do with lessening cancer risk than not eating meat. The Antioxidants, Phytonutrients, Phenols etc in fruits and vegetables is what reduces cancer risk. Simply eating meat does NOT increase cancer risk, and simply removing it from diet doesn’t decrease overall cancer risk (proven by the vegans who developed cancer).

We are exposed to a myriad of unnatural, unhealthy chemicals via food (meat, fruits, vegetables) and water, drugs/chemicals, etc. The drugs/chemicals include prescription drugs, agriculture chemicals, etc. none of which Simmons mentions anything about about, but many of them harm the environment, the people, the animals, and the plants). Consuming a higher amount of fruits/vegetables helps fight effects of those chemicals on the body.

Most who stop eating meat also begin to seek out natural sources for healing and begin to reject pharma drugs more often. This is also a major part of the reason why they msy have lower cancer risk.

Definitely reduce/eliminate hot dogs, grilled foods, bacon, and other highly processed meats, and eat lots of fruits n veggies, but avoid the hype and hate over eating meat in general.

Candida Can Cause What?

That’s a pretty long list! The thing is, you’re probably already experiencing some of these things. Candida is a living thing. It has a life cycle, and it reproduces and dies, like every other living thing. When it dies, it causes problems like these. The effects are more pronounced when they die in large numbers at a time.

The fact is that there are several ailments that Candida is involved in, including chronic sinus headaches, digestion issues, arthritis, and even Alzheimer’s disease, it’s so very worth it to get the fungus under control.

It’s definitely worth a bit of discomfort temporarily, to prevent major ailments later. Certain foods can be beneficial against candida, including coconut oil and milk (raw milk is best, but all milk works). While these help, they aren’t sufficient. Alkaline Body’s Aren’t Balanced

You may think that an alkaline body is what you want, but balance is best.


There is much talk on social media, at seminars, and in books, of having an alkaline body. Understanding the science of our bodies is very important, and much of the information out here is highly unscientific. Normal blood pH is about 7.4. Yes, technically that is slightly alkaline, but much closer to neutral, which is a 7 on the pH, or acid/alkaline balance.

Additionally, most who preach an alkaline diet don’t explain to listeners that the body has various pH levels in and on it. The skin must remain acidic, the stomach must be acidic to best absorb precious electrolytes or other important nutrients, the vagina must have an acid pH to best prevent yeast and bacterial infections, however this is rarely (if ever) discussed.

There have even been claims that NO DISEASE CAN EXIST IN AN ALKALINE ENVIRONMENT. This is highly unscientific and simply not true. There are many disease-causing bacteria and viruses that prefer or thrive just fine in an alkaline (aka ‘basic’) environment.

It has also been said that CANCER CANNOT EXIST IN AN ALKALINE ENVIRONMENT. This, as well, is untrue, and unscientific. As a matter of fact, it has been shown, scientifically, that cancer cells work hard to keep the cell interior alkaline. For this reason, any acids produced inside the cancer cells are pushed out into the blood stream, in order to maintain the preferred higher pH interior.

When cancer patients develop acidosis, it’s because of the cancer trying to remain alkaline. Medical treatment with bases/alkaline, like baking soda, are for the purpose of keeping the patient from the brink of death as the acids hinder normal bodily function. It does nothing to kill the cancer.

Most often, it’s also not explained to listeners or readers that the body tightly regulates pH. It constantly maintains the pH at about 7.3/7.4. Only in extreme cases does one actually suffer from acidosis or alkalosis, at which point the person is likely very near death, as these are life threatening situations.

There’s no need to attempt to alkalize yourself. That’s your body’s job. Your job is to give it the variety of nutrients that it needs for homeostasis.

Saturated Fat Is Bad???

Why have heart disease rates gone sky high since the use of more alternatives? Companies that produced and/or sold soybeans, habe gained billions in revenues, while the public health has plummeted. Who stood to gain the most from vilifying saturated fats like butter and lard?

Saturated fat has blamed for several health issues, but especially heart disease. However, the information regarding this is very misleading. High amounts of unsatursted fats (especially polyunsaturated), like those in bottles labeled ‘vegetable oil’ (essentially soybean oil) are very unhealthy, and any amount of trans fats are the most unhealthy and destructive to the cardiovascular system.

Margarine, (something many inner-city households bought by the tub) was largely colored, flavored, hydrogenated soybean oil (i.e. trans polyunsaturated fats). The soybean oil was processed in a way that made it look and act like butter, as a cheaper alternative.

When the media and doctors are all vilifying a particular food product, it’s best to ask yourself if there’s an ulterior motive, and what they could gain from that information. When you ask the right questions, your answer might end up being in line with the information you were given, but it may very well not be. You’ll never know, if you don’t start with the question.

Avoid The Coconut Water Hype

Coconut water has become a popular health drink, but is it really a great healthy drink? Once the facts are revealed, you might be surprised by the answer.

Although it’s easy to forget, coconuts are… nuts. Nuts, as well as seeds and grains, contain a chemical called phytic acid (or phytate). This chemical interferes with gut absorption of important minerals, including iron, calcium, magnesium, and zinc. It even prevents these nutrients from being absorbed from other foods when they’re consumed with coconut (or other nuts).

As nuts go, coconuts have less phytic acid, but there’s more than a tiny bit. You want to get all of the nutrients you can from your food, so it’s best not to go crazy with coconut and coconut products, except for coconut oil. Coconut oil doesn’t contain phytate, because phytic acid isn’t oil soluble.

With that said, it can negatively affect the immune system in 2 ways, one of which is specifically related to nutrition. Less zinc availability leaves the immune system very imbalanced and vulnerable.

Nuts, including coconuts, also contain imbalanced protein. The amino acid content of nuts is not best for humans (or even for your dog or cat). The disproportionate amino acids can cause problems for the immune system.

If you insist on drinking coconut water, or eating coconut frequently, you can decrease the effect of the nutrient-inhibiting, or anti-nutrient, chemical in coconuts, by consuming coconut products with high vitamin C foods. This won’t make it possible to completely avoid the nutrition interference, but it will help a lot.

As far as the amino acid imbalance, you can try to balance it out a bit by consuming the coconut water with a meat meal. Meat has more balanced protein, which can help to minimize or prevent the protein issues. However, meat is also the best source of zinc, so you’ll want to definitely make sure vitamin C is well represented in the meal or in your drink.

Lack of Sleep Can Shorten Your Life

We all know that sleep is necessary. Unfortunately, in today’s world, sleep can be something like a unicorn. You really want it, but it seems nonexistent.

All jokes aside, sleep is something that eludes many in this fast-paced, high-stress society. There’s always something else to do, and not enough time to do it in. Unfortunately, sacrificing sufficient z’s, in a effort to steal away a few extra hours for work or pleasure, can really backfire in long-run.

Far beyond the physical and mental drain a lack of rest can bring, you’re actually robbing yourself of nutrients, and so you’re also losing immune function, brain function, heart function, and extra time off of your life click.

The body requires more resources when it’s under stress. Trying to function normally on little sleep actually causes stress.
